RAM Speed: To find out whether your Mac mini uses DDR-400Mhz, DDR2-667Mhz, or DDR3-10661066MMhz SO-DIMMs, go to the Apple Menu on the top left corner of your screen, and select "About This Mac." The Memory line will read either 667Mhz, 800Mhz, or 1066Mhz speed RAM.
Mac Mini G4 DDR 400Mhz:
The Mac Mini G4 has one memory slot, which holds a single DDR400 184pin DIMM. In order to upgrade, you will have to remove the currently installed DIMM, and replace it with a larger module. The system maximum is 1Gig with the installation of a single 1Gig DDR DIMM.
Mac Mini Intel DDR2 667Mhz:
The Mac Mini Intel has two memory slots, that come preloaded from the factory with two 256mb PC2-5300, DDR2-667 SO-DIMMs. Memory must be installed in pairs, so in order to upgrade, you will remove those two original 256mb modules and replace them. The system maximum is 2GB in the Intel Core Duo, and 4GB in the Intel Core2 Duo.
Mac Mini Intel DDR3 1066Mhz:
The newer Mac Mini Intel has two memory slots, that come preloaded from the factory with one or two 1Gig DDR3-1066 SO-DIMMs. You can install a maximum of 8Gigs with the Ramjet 8Gig kit (2x 8Gig SO-DIMMs). The 8GB upgrade requires the Apple Firmware Update 1.2 released in Aug. 2009.
