Mac Pro Memory for Models 4.1 and 5.1 (8-Core and 4-Core)
Mac Pro Early 2009 and Mid 2010
8 slot and 4 slot versions
DDR3-1066Mhz
The DDR3-1066 DIMMs for the Mac Pro require a Thermal Sensor for full performance and compatibility. Many 3rd party Mac Pro DIMMs do not include this sensor. Ramjet memory always conforms 100% to the Apple spec, and these DIMMs include the Apple thermal sensor.
Tri-channel memory configuration gives a slight performance advantage. The DDR3-1066 DIMMs for the Mac Pro will run 1-3% faster if they are installed in matched sets of three (tri-channel). You may add DIMMs in any combination, but performance will suffer slightly if the DIMMs are not matched 3x at a time.
8GB and 16GB modules: In order for the Model ID 4,1 to recognize and utilize 8GB or 16GB modules, your OS must be upgraded to Lion or above. Utilization of 16GBx8 memory modules requires OS X Mavericks (10.9.X.) Previous operating systems are limited to a maximum of 96GB (16GBx6.)
Non-Mixable 16GB DIMMs: 16GB DIMMs can ONLY be used with identical 16GB DIMMs from the same batch (i.e. ordered at the same time.)
Matched Modules: The Ramjet kits for the Mac Pro DDR3-1066 contain a matched set of DIMMs. The kit will consist of identical brand/model/spec IC's. They will be from a single batch, and will have matching series numbers. This ensures maximum performance, and perfect compatibility.
